Your Views: Small businesses need affordable digital marketing options

As a small business owner, I’ve seen how digital advertising helps small businesses reach customers efficiently and affordably. Whether it’s targeted social media ads or keyword search ads, digital advertising helps small businesses without wasting money on broad, expensive marketing.

This benefits consumers too. Digital advertising helps small businesses keep costs down. And when advertising costs are lower, businesses can pass those savings along to our customers.

For small companies, traditional advertising is often unaffordable. These channels require large upfront costs with little ability to target the right customers. In an economy where operating expenses remain high, small businesses can’t afford to waste marketing dollars. Digital advertising provides a lower-cost, more efficient alternative that helps local businesses reach the right audience, stay competitive, and grow.

As Wisconsin considers new online privacy rules, lawmakers should avoid heavy restrictions on ordinary customer data, rigid advertising policies, or ad taxes that raise costs for businesses.

Privacy protection matters. But it should be balanced and consistent. I urge my congressman, Scott Fitzgerald, as well as Senators Baldwin and Johnson, to work toward a single federal privacy standard that protects consumers while preserving the affordable digital tools small business need.
