Online advertising campaigns proved to be successful

Lightning Rod Records is a Nashville-based independent record label that specializes in Rock, Country, and Americana music. Over the years, the label has released music by artists such as James McMurtry, Billy Joe Shaver, The Oak Ridge Boys, Amanda Shires, and Jason Isbell. During the pandemic, we saw significant growth on music streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. They are one of the most important mediums for artist development by introducing our artists to new fans through their editorial coverage and music discovery algorithms. Our vinyl record sales more than doubled during this time, as well. Bandcamp played a big part in that increase. Their “No Fee Fridays” increased our orders as well as our subscriber base on their site. We found that people spent a lot of discretionary money on physical products ordered online. We tried to cater to the new vinyl music fans by creating unique packaging and vinyl variants.
